Phlebology
From a comprehensive assessment to echo sclerotherapy, we provide modern phlebology care to reduce heaviness, pain, and spider veins, while improving the appearance of your skin. Consultations by appointment.
What is Venous Disease?
Chronic venous disease, also known as venous insufficiency, occurs when the valves in the veins of the legs do not function properly. Blood pools, which can lead to varicose veins and spider veins, a feeling of heaviness, swelling at the end of the day, nighttime cramps, itching, or changes in the skin. If left untreated, chronic venous disease can increase the risk of blood clots (thrombophlebitis) or chronic wounds such as venous ulcers.
Diagnosis and treatment planning rely on a venous ultrasound (Doppler), which precisely maps the venous network and identifies the refluxes responsible for your symptoms.
Lower Limb Venous Ultrasound
Indications
Venous ultrasound is indicated for the initial assessment of varicose veins and spider veins, whether or not there is heaviness, pain, nighttime cramps, end-of-day swelling, or skin changes. It is also used to precisely map the venous network before sclerotherapy and to monitor progress after treatment or if complications are suspected.
Procedure
A gel is applied to the leg, and the practitioner moves an ultrasound probe to visualize the veins in real time. The examination is performed while standing to properly assess circulation and venous reflux. Gentle maneuvers (breathing, compression) help refine the analysis. The procedure is non-invasive and painless, and the results are clearly explained to you at the end.
Recovery
No downtime is required. You can resume your activities immediately.
Liquid Sclerotherapy
Indications
Liquid sclerotherapy is particularly suitable for superficial spider veins (telangiectasias) and small reticular veins that cause cosmetic concerns or mild symptoms such as tingling or tightness. It is preferred when the ultrasound does not reveal significant axial reflux and the goal is to even out the appearance of the skin.
Procedure
The procedure is performed in a lying position. A sclerosing agent is injected via micro-injections into the targeted small veins. The solution irritates the vein walls, causing them to close and gradually be absorbed by the body. Several areas can be treated per session; a number of sessions is proposed depending on the extent.
Recovery
Mild redness, bruising, or itching may occur and usually resolve on their own. Walking is recommended immediately after the procedure, and wearing compression stockings may be advised for a few days, depending on clinical guidance. It is best to avoid intense exercise and excessive heat for 24 to 48 hours.
Strict sun protection is recommended for the month following the procedure to prevent hyperpigmentation in the treated areas. For patients undergoing sclerotherapy, it is also advised to avoid long seated trips two weeks before and after the treatment.
Our team will ensure that all post-treatment precautions and care instructions are clearly explained to guarantee your comfort and optimal recovery.
Foam Sclerotherapy
Indications
The foam version is indicated for larger veins or segments with hemodynamically significant reflux. Thanks to its better contact with the vein wall, it provides increased effectiveness and represents a non-surgical alternative for selected cases, including certain recurrences or residual veins after treatment, often performed under ultrasound guidance for greater precision.
Procedure
The procedure is performed in a lying position. The sclerosant is turned into foam to optimize effectiveness. Injections are administered on the targeted segments; if needed, the procedure can be performed under ultrasound guidance for greater precision.
Recovery
Mild redness, bruising, or itching may occur and typically resolves on its own. A temporary feeling of tightness or a vein-like cord may also appear and gradually subsides.
Immediate walking is recommended, as well as applying ice if needed. Wearing elastic compression may be advised for a few days, depending on your specialist’s recommendations. It is preferable to avoid vigorous exercise and hot baths for at least 48 hours. Strict photoprotection is recommended for at least one month to prevent complications such as hyperpigmentation of the treated areas.
For patients undergoing sclerotherapy, it is also advised to avoid prolonged seated travel for two weeks before and after the treatment.
Your specialist will guide you on the most appropriate recommendations for your situation, which may vary depending on the complexity of your treatment and your individual condition.
Echo Sclerotherapy
Indications
Echo-sclerotherapy is recommended when the pathological veins are not visible on the surface — for example, incompetent perforating veins or deeper venous pathways — or when real-time guidance is required. It allows treatment of the sources of reflux identified on Doppler ultrasound and helps reduce the risk of recurrence by targeting the cause rather than just the appearance.
Procedure
Under ultrasound guidance, the procedure is performed in a lying position. The needle is precisely positioned in the vein to be treated, and a solution (often in foam) is injected. The closure of the segment is monitored in real time with the ultrasound, followed by the application of compression.
Recovery
Mild redness, bruising, or itching may occur and usually resolve on their own. A temporary sensation of tightness or a vein cord is also possible, which gradually diminishes.
Immediate walking is recommended, along with the application of ice if necessary. Wearing elastic compression may be advised for a few days, according to your specialist’s guidance. It is best to avoid vigorous exercise and hot baths for at least 48 hours. Strict sun protection is recommended for at least one month to prevent complications such as hyperpigmentation in the treated areas.
For patients undergoing sclerotherapy, it is also advised to avoid prolonged sitting during travel two weeks before and after treatment. Each patient receives systematic ultrasound monitoring to confirm the treatment’s effectiveness and, if necessary, to adjust the treatment plan.
